Deirdre Fitzpatrick has fondness for endurance sports. She's finished numerous marathons and completed the Wisconsin Ironman. As an anchor and reporter for KCRA channel 3, the NBC affiliate in Sacramento, she looks for opportunities to feature running and cycling segments in the station's news.
We know each other some, and for the past several years, either when I've traveled to the Tour de France or for other cycling and long-distance running stories, she has contacted to comment on-air on events like the California International Marathon, Tour of California and the Tour de France.
A few days into the 2007 Tour, my first at-home Tour since 1997, Fitzpatrick and co-anchor Chris Riva featured Tour de France For Dummies, the book I co-wrote in 2005, as part of two segments on the Tour de France. The segments were broadcast on the morning news on My 58, KCRA's "sister station." The second segment of the interview is below via the station's You Tube.com segment post.
