Monterey Auto Week is hard to describe, particularly since it lasts nearly two weeks. And Monterey Auto Week isn’t really an official name, either, because there isn’t an official name to all of the car-related activities on the Monterey Peninsula in August.
One
of the tangible but often unwritten tests of a new vehicle is its
initial comfort. In short, does a car suit a driver without a lengthy
technological learning curve? Maybe that makes me a
simpleton, but there’s something to be said for an efficient,
straightforward, no-nonsense car that doesn’t require intense
reading to operate. And that’s an appropriate description of
the 2008 Kia Rondo.
For all of its picturesque views, clean air and bountiful recreation, visitors to South Lake Tahoe also get a sensory overload of what they likely don't want to see. Casinos and jumbo-sized entertainment marques promote the area’s leading industries, but the flash doesn’t fit the environment. Likewise roadside motels, some in near disrepair, do little for the California-Nevada border city’s image. Add is all up and it only further distinguishes an accommodation choice like Lakeland Village Beach & Mountain Resort.
It’s not an official name, but travelers to the Monterey Peninsula have the largest selection of motel and hotel rooms along “Motel-Hotel Row” in Monterey. The last property on the west side of Munras Ave., just prior to entering the Highway 1 entrance is the Mariposa Inn & Suites. Like many of its neighboring locations, the Mariposa Inn & Suites is nearly 50 years old. And earlier this year, its owners and the new general manager, Joy Anderson, decided the Mariposa Inn had seen better days. A complete renovation began this spring.
Will Floyd Landis ride again in the pro peloton? If a rampant rumor is true, the answer is yes. And it may happen as soon as next February. That’s when Landis, the dethroned 2006 Tour de France champion, can return to compete following a two-year suspension for an abnormal testosterone ratio. And none other than Tyler Hamilton, the 2004 Olympic time trial gold medalist who also served a two-year suspension for the presence of foreign blood in his system, got the rumor circulating.
Carlos Sastre, 33, won the 2008 Tour de France on Sunday after leading the race for he final five stages following a solo victory in the 17th stage to L’Alpe d’Huez. Sastre was victorious over Cadel Evans (Silence-Lotto) of Australia by 58 seconds and by 1 minute and 13 seconds over Bernard Kohl (Gerolsteiner) of Austria.
